Second Block – Interlocking Four Patch

The second block in our quilt along is up on YouTube! It’s the Interlocking four patch block. There are two different things that you learn from this video – how to make strip sets, and how to put together a four patch block.

I work with strip sets whenever I can when I’m quilting. One of my favorite things about them is how non-quilters are so amazed by how many pieces that are in a quilt top, and they think that each piece was sewn and cut individually. There’s no need to tell them our secret! Personally, I just say thank you. No need to break the illusion.

I also wanted to cover putting blocks together and nesting seams. For new quilters, a great way to start is just by doing it. Being a four patch block, it only has one seam to nest. Baby steps.

בלוק שני – רבעים מצטלבים

הבלוק השני בשמיכה שלנו עלה ליוטיוב! זה בלוק ארבעת הטלאים המשתלבים. ישנם שני דברים שונים שלומדים מהסרטון הזה – איך להכין סטים של רצועות, ואיך להרכיב בלוק של ארבעה טלאים.

אני עובדת עם סטים של רצועות בכל הזדמנות כשאני עושה טלאים. אחד הדברים האהובים עליי בהם הוא איך אנשים שאינם קווילטרים נדהמים כל כך מכמה חלקים נמצאים בחלק העליון של שמיכה, והם חושבים שכל חלק נתפר ונחתך בנפרד. אין צורך לגלות להם את הסוד שלנו! אישית, אני רק אומרת תודה. אין צורך לשבור את האשליה.

רציתי גם לכסות חיבור בלוקים ותפרי קינון. עבור קווילטרים חדשים, דרך מצוינת להתחיל היא פשוט לעשות את זה. בהיותו בלוק של ארבעה טלאים, יש לו רק תפר אחד לקנן. צעדי תינוק.
