I know that I say this a lot, but I am so excited to finally release the first block in the Quilt Along. I like to call it the Sticks block. I’m sure that it has a bunch of other names as well. The reason that I chose it was that it’s a great beginner block. It’s visually a high-impact block and there are no matching seams. I don’t think you can get any better than that!

I wanted to focus more on cutting fabric in this video. Once you learn to cut correctly, you’re set for life. That, and sewing a quarter-inch seam, and you’ve got most of the tools you need to make beautiful quilt tops.

I love making sticks so much that I created a pattern for a baby quilt that only uses sticks in it. It also uses strip piecing, but that is something that I’ll cover in my next quilt block in the quilt along. You’ll just have to stay tuned in!

BTW – I am totally in love with the thumbnail image for this video. I need to give a shout-out to my daughter Shira for designing it. The rotary cutter cutting the sign is just brilliant. It makes me smile every time I see it!

הכירו את הבלוק הראשון של הקווילט-אלונג

אני יודעת שאני אומרת את זה הרבה, אבל אני כל כך מתרגשת לשחרר סוף סוף את הבלוק הראשון ב-Quilt Along. אני אוהבת לקרוא לזה בלוק המקלות. אני בטוחה שיש לו גם כמה שמות אחרים. הסיבה שבחרתי בו הייתה שזה בלוק נהדר למתחילים. מבחינה ויזואלית זהו בלוק בעל נוכחות ויזואלית חזקה ואין תפרים תואמים. אני לא חושבת שאפשר להתעלות על זה!

רציתי להתמקד יותר בחיתוך בד בסרטון הזה. ברגע שלומדים לחתוך נכון, אנחנו מוכנים לחיים. זה, ותפירת תפר בגודל רבע אינץ’, ויש לנו את רוב הכלים שצריך כדי ליצור דוגמאות קווילט יפהפיות.

אני כל כך אוהבת להכין מקלות שיצרתי מיגזרת לשמיכת תינוק שיש בה רק במקלות. יש בה גם שימוש בהרכבת רצועות (strip piecing), אבל זה משהו שאכסה בבלוק השמיכה הבא בקווילט-אלונג. תאלצו פשוט להישאר מעודכנים!

אם ברצונכם להוריד את מיגזרת שמיכת התינוק, פשוט עברו אל דף המיגזרות החינמי והורידו אותו משם.

אגב – אני לגמרי מאוהבת בתמונת התמונה הממוזערת של הסרטון הזה. אני רוצה לפרגן לבתי שירה על העיצוב שלה. גלגלת החיתוך שחותכת את השלט היא פשוט מבריקה. זה גורם לי לחייך בכל פעם שאני רואה את זה!
