My first quilt

Quilt for Yishai

I was so excited when I found out that my son and his wife were expecting! I could barely control myself from telling the whole world. Unfortunately. I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone. They told us when she was a couple of months pregnant, and I needed to wait a whole month before I could share the wonderful news with anyone.

I was pretty good. My son happened to call me when I was in the car with my friend, so of course she found out when I did. I swore her to secrecy. She was true and no one found out until they were supposed to.

In the meantime, I needed an outlet for my excitement. I found it in my sewing machine. It was actually not in my sewing machine but in my daughter’s machine. It’s good that she had a machine. It made my entry into sewing a quilt much easier.

I started by looking up quilts on the internet. I found one that I really liked but had no idea how to make it. There was no pattern. I just took some fabric and started sewing. I made my own.

Looking at the quilt, if I were to do it again, there are so many things that I would do differently. That said, it came out pretty good. It was definitely a good start.

Update Nov. 26, 2020: I have very few quilts that I actually keep in my house. The ones that I do have are some of the oldest that I’ve made. I love keeping my old quilts around. It helps me remember where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. It basically a visual reference of how far I’ve come. It’s been a great journey and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
