Going on Vacation
עברית למטה
Hi Quilters!
I know it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted anything. It’s been a hard, sad, scary and crazy year for us all. We are all still praying for the hostages, the refugees, and our brave soldiers. May everyone come home safely.
I wasn’t planning on taking a vacation, but my husband is traveling for work, and I’ve decided to join him. I’m sure we will have a good time, but my heart still remains in and with Israel. That being said, the store will be closed from August 27th-September 15th. You can still browse the site, but you won’t be able to purchase anything.
If there is something that you’d like, please make sure to make your order before August 27th.
After I get back, I plan on making an order for more notions and batting. If you have anything that you’d like me to try to get, feel free to email me at rena@quiltisrael.com, and I’ll be happy to try to bring it in. (It can take a month or more to get in shipments).
I hope that you all are able to enjoy the rest of your summer. See you in September!
All my best,
Rena

Things That Make Me Happy

Selling Fabrics Online in Israel
I am so happy to let you know that I am now selling fabric on my website. I can’t believe that the whole system is up and running. Before I get into the story, I want to let you know that there is a coupon to get 10% off your first purchase. The code is WELCOME because I wanted to welcome everyone to my site. (I know, it’s a bit cheesy).

Art Quilting: Giving Definition with Quilting
This is it. We’re heading for home! All our pieces have been placed. Now the time has come to add the finishing touches!
There are basically three reasons for quilting your quilt:
- Holding the fabric down
- Giving definitions to the sections
- It wouldn’t be a quilted portrait unless it was quilted

Art Quilting: Building the Portrait
Now for the main event! The background has been completed. Now it’s time to put our portrait together. This is the part I like to think of as fabric puzzling. You will understand what I mean in a bit.
Before we get to the nitty-gritty of putting the pieces together, let’s start with picking out fabric. My granddaughter looks pretty pale in this photo. I didn’t want her to just fade into the very light background. I chose to go with a hew of flesh tone colors that still looked natural, but that gave some extra pink to her cheeks.

Art Quilting: Quilting the Background
The fabric layering part of the background is done. Now it’s time to give it some depth. Why start quilting before the fabric picture is

Art Quilting: Creating Your Background
Finally! We get to play with fabric! I don’t know about you, but one of the things that I love most about quilting is fondling

Art Quilting: Posterizing Your image
I took a slight detour with my last post. I was about art quilting, but it was a different type of art quilting – fabric

Art Quilting: Fabric Collage
I finally finished a fabric collage of a cat that I started almost a year ago. I had learned the technique from Phyllis Cullen at

Art Quilting: Modifying and Printing Your Image
After finishing “First Steps,” I thought that I would take some time to explain the process of making these types of Art Quilts. I’m starting
