As the year ends and the temperature drops it’s time to think about making a temperature quilt. It’s more fun to quilt when it’s cold outside, right?

What is a temperature quilt? It’s a quilt that’s colors are chosen by the temperature of the day. Each day’s temperature is represented in each block – there are 365 blocks altogether (366 on leap years).

I was introduced to the idea by a lovely quilter last year. She was looking for a pattern for one and we had fun picking out the colors for her quilt together. With the new year around the corner, I thought it was about time to make my own temperature quilt pattern.

The pattern uses hourglass blocks. The top of the hourglass is the high temperature color and the bottom is the low. Each column is a month (that’s why they aren’t all the same length).

The pattern is free. You can download it from the patterns page. If you’d like a kit that I made to go with the fabric, you can buy that here. It’s 10 yards of fabric. Since we don’t know how warm or cold it will be, there’s plenty of spare fabric.

At the Israel Quilters Association workshops in Neve Ilan, there was a woman there who wanted to make the quilt for the year that her grandchild was born. I found a site for Israel weather patterns here. The data only goes back so far, but it’s a good start!

כשהשנה מסתיימת והטמפרטורה יורדת הגיע הזמן לחשוב על הכנת קווילט טמפרטורה. יותר כיף לתפור כשקר בחוץ, נכון?

מהו קווילט טמפרטורה? זוהי שמיכה שצבעיה נבחרים לפי הטמפרטורה של היום. טמפרטורת כל יום מיוצגת בכל בלוק – ישנם 365 בלוקים בסך הכל (366 בשנים מעוברות).

התוודעתי לרעיון על ידי קווילטרית מקסימה בשנה שעברה. היא חיפשה דוגמה לאחד והיה לנו כיף לבחור יחד את הצבעים לשמיכה שלה. עם השנה החדשה מעבר לפינה, חשבתי שהגיע הזמן להכין דפוס לקווילט טמפרטורה משלי.

התבנית משתמשת בבלוקים של שעון חול. החלק העליון של שעון החול הוא צבע הטמפרטורה הגבוהה והחלק התחתון הוא הנמוכה. כל טור הוא חודש (בגלל זה לא כולם באותו אורך).

התבנית בחינם. אתם יכולים להוריד אותו מדף המיגזרות. אם תרצו ערכה שהכנתי כדי להתאים את הבד, תוכלו לקנות את זה כאן. מדובר ב 1- מטרים של בד. מכיוון שאנחנו לא יודעים כמה חם או קר יהיה, יש הרבה בד רזרבי.

בסדנאות אגודת הטלאים בישראל בנווה אילן הייתה אישה שרצתה להכין את השמיכה לשנה בה נולד הנכד שלה. מצאתי כאן אתר לדפוסי מזג אוויר בישראל. יש גבול כמה הנתונים חוזרים אחורה בזמן, אבל זו התחלה טובה!
