Here’s my list of supplies and where I bought them:

Large self healing cutting mat – In Jerusalem, on Yafo Street, there are a ton of fabric stores. On the opposite side of the street there is a sewing and crafts supply shop. I bought my mat there for significantly less that I found it anywhere else in Israel.

Rotary cutter – I got my rotary cutter in that store as well. I don’t use that rotary cutter any more because I just couldn’t figure out how to change the blade. I figured out how to open it to take it out, but when I put in my new blade, it just doesn’t feel right. It could be that you will have more success that I did. The cutter that I am currently using is one that I bought online in the use at a store called Fat Quarter Shop. They have everything there that you can think of for sewing. I’ll spend more time talking about then in a future post

Scissors – I got my scissors at that store as well, but they sell them for the same price all over.

Straight pins – I like the long flower head pins. It’s amazing how hard they are to find in Israel. My first batch I bought at Pissott. Since then I’ve bought them online at Ali Express.

Large acrylic ruler – The only place in Israel that I have found my long ruler that I am in love with is Pissot. It’s 6″ x 24″. The ruler was a bit pricey but worth it.

Cotton thread – It’s amazing to me how many weird looks I’ve gotten when I’ve gone into sewing shops and asked for cotton thread. It’s worse than not having the thread, the sellers ask why I would need it when polyester is just as good. It’s as if I’m insulting their way of life by wanting cotton. The only place that I know of to buy cotton thread in Israel is Pissott. Pissott has a nice selection of colors. They sell large spools of white and cream threads at a really good price, which are prefect for most of my needs.

Sewing machine – I actually bought my machine at Pissott too. There prices are reasonable, and I know that I have someone to talk to about the machine if there are any issues with it. I am now sporting a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. I got it not that long ago and I love it. My daughter’s machine was adequate, but there really is no comparison. I’ll talk more about how I picked it in a future post.

Well that’s it in a nut shell. This, fabric and batting is all you need to succeed.

Besides fabric, there are a few other things that you just can’t live without.
